Terms of use

Version: 2026-11-02

These terms are the agreement between you and the people who run Atoll. In these terms, "Atoll", "we" and "us" mean them and the service they run at atoll.place. "You" means the person with the account.

How we handle what you put into Atoll is in the privacy policy. It is part of these terms, so please read it too.

The short version

  • Atoll is for adults. You must be 18 or over to have an account.
  • What you and your people put on your Island belongs to you and your Island, not to us.
  • Atoll is free today, and it is still young. Keep an export of anything you would hate to lose.
  • Be decent: no breaking the law, no harming people, no getting into Islands you were not invited to.
  • You can leave whenever you like, and delete your account from your account page.

Who can use Atoll

You must be 18 or over to make an Atoll account, and when you sign up you confirm that you are. We do not make accounts for children or for anyone under 18. If your household includes children, they are represented, if at all, by an adult's account: a parent can keep the family's recipes or the school run on their own account, but a child does not get one.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.

Your account is for one person. Keep your passkeys and your email inbox safe, because they are how you sign in. If you think someone else has got into your account, tell us at hello@atoll.place.

What Atoll is

Atoll gives you and your people a private space, an Island, where you build small apps with your AI agent (Claude, today), publish them, and use them together over data you share. An Island has an owner, administrators and members, and its own rules about who can see and change each collection.

Creating an Island needs an invite code. Joining someone's Island needs an invite from one of its administrators.

Free, for now

Atoll costs nothing today. We may add paid plans later. If we do, we will tell you before anything costs money, and nothing will be charged without you choosing it.

Atoll has limits. Each Island has a monthly allowance of extraction calls, and apps can make only so many calls a minute. Reaching a limit never costs you anything.

What is yours

What you and your people put into your Island (records in its collections, the apps you publish and their versions) stays yours and your Island's. We do not claim ownership of it.

So that Atoll can work, you give us permission to store it, copy it between the services that run Atoll, show it to the members your Island's rules allow, and send the text you choose to the AI model when you ask an app to extract something. We use that permission only to run Atoll for you, as the privacy policy describes, and it ends when the data is deleted.

The Atoll name, logo and the service itself are ours.

The apps you build

You and your agent write the apps you publish to your Island. Every member can publish, and Atoll shows in plain words what each app can read and change. An Island's administrators can switch on approval mode: then a member's new app, or a change to what an app can read and change, waits until an administrator approves it. You are responsible for the apps you publish and for what they do with your Island's data.

Claude is made by Anthropic. When you connect Claude to your Island, your use of Claude is also covered by Anthropic's own terms, and Claude acts as you: it can do on your Island what you can do there, within what you allowed when you connected it.

Please don't

  • Use Atoll to break the law, or to store or share anything you do not have the right to share.
  • Use Atoll to harass, threaten or harm anyone, inside your Island or outside it.
  • Try to get into an Island, an account or data that is not yours, or get around the limits and permissions Atoll sets.
  • Publish apps that attack visitors, other Islands or Atoll itself, or that try to collect people's passwords or payment details.
  • Overload Atoll on purpose, or use it to send spam.

If an Island or an account breaks these rules, we may pause it or close it. Where we can, we will tell you why first and give you the chance to put it right and to take an export.

Leaving

You can leave an Island at any time from your account. If you own it, hand it over to another administrator, or delete the Island, first. If you are its last administrator, make someone else an administrator first. You can delete your account from your account page; the privacy policy says exactly what that removes and what stays with your Islands.

An owner can delete their Island. It closes at once and is deleted for good 30 days later; until then the owner can restore it.

We may stop running Atoll. If we do, we will tell you by email beforehand, so you have time to take an export.

As is

Atoll is provided as it is and as it is available. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we make no promises that it will always be available, free of mistakes, secure, or right for what you need, and we give no warranties of any kind, whether written here or implied by law (including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement), except where the law does not allow us to exclude them. Keep an export of anything important.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost data, lost profits or lost use, arising from Atoll or these terms, however it arises. Our total liability to you for everything arising from Atoll in any twelve months is limited to the amount you paid us for Atoll in that time, which is nothing while Atoll is free. Some places do not allow some of these limits, so some may not apply to you.

Changes to these terms

When we change these terms, the version date at the top changes. If a change matters to you, we will tell you by email before it applies. If you do not agree to the new version, you can delete your account before it applies.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and the federal laws of the United States of America, without regard to their conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about Atoll or these terms is heard in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we each agree to their jurisdiction. If a part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
